My Favorite Arizona Hot Springs
About twenty miles north of the small town of Bowie you’ll find my favorite Arizona hot springs in a small park maintained by the BLM or Bureau of Land Management. It is called the Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area. There are picnic tables and places to camp, along with basic pit toilets and two hot spring tubs made of cement. The hot water has been flowing here for over seventy years, the result of oil drilling in the 1930s that struck some thermal geological feature instead of oil. The cost is just $3 per night to stay here, and in addition to the hot springs, you can hike in the surrounding dunes and collect some great colored rocks as well.
