Hostels are commonly associated with Europe and the backpacking style of vacation. A hostel is a place for people to stay that it is much more public than a hotel and the cost of staying in one is adjusted thusly. Providing a cheap place to stay and rest is a necessity when one plans on being out for extended periods of time. There are hostels in America too and the hostels in Los Angeles are a perfect example of it. The amount of money it takes to stay is miniscule when compared to even the most reasonably priced hotels and they are all clean and cozy, perhaps even more so than said hotels.
