While it isn’t as environmentally friendly as disk drive wiping or reuse, there are services out there that offer secure hard data drive destruction options.

The implementation of th process includes removal of the printed circuit board from the drive, removal of the disk drive connector, drilling a hole in the entire disk drive which penetrates all disk drive platter components and then recycling of the disk drive case to its aluminum components.

This option may cost more since there is considerable man power required, but it is still a great option for a company or personal state of mind.
