What To Expect In Tournaments

Before you beging you should look around at the seeding tables. This is not only to see where you’ve been seeded, but where others have as well. It will help alot. Even though you aren’t sure what it is you’re looking for, it can help you form an opinion about a particular bout you’re in. And it can you to anticipate where you could place in the fencing tournament and give you an insight to whom you can or cannot beat. You might face an opponent with the rapier that you have beaten before or has previously beaten you. It’s natural to feel apprehensive crossing swords with this person, but dont let that get to you. Otherwise, it’s possible you’ve lost the bout before it even began.  If it’s someone you’ve already gotten the best of, don’t get too excited about this. You’re opponent may have gotten better and then you could lose, even though you’ve bested the person before. Both of these aren’t pleasant to think about but it’s better than having expectations you can’t fulfill. When you cross swords with others in a tournament you must remember that only one will win.  Here’s a few tips for you: Try not to check the seeding tables. It helps you focus on the task at hand instead of being distracted by where you’re placed. Losses are an opportunity. Everybody has lost matches. It’s to be expected. Don’t go bragging about your skills to others. You can’t predict the future and you may not win. You can expect that the competition can be rough and mistakes happen. You can win if you think carefully and don’t blow everything out of proportion. Give it your best shot and as long as you’ve done so, you can lose without feeling bad about yourself.
