Pigs and the Art of Zen
My boss used to be one of the most driven men I knew. One day he surprised everyone by leaving and buying a farm. He decided to raise pigs. Last year I visited him and found him happily reading a book on treating pig diseases. He offered me herbal tea and talked quietly as he petted one of his little piglets. He told me that caring for animals had a very calming effect on him and he loved it. It was, he said, almost like meditation. Apparently so because as I was leaving I saw a sign he had put on the barn door. It read, “Pigs and the Art of Zen”.
