Obviously, cyberspace is not a healthy “third space” for everyone, but there are research studies demonstrating that deep and lasting relationships can develop over the Internet. Twenty-six of the 86 study participants went on to meet the person whom they had been engaged in an online relationship with, and of these, all but two ended up having a real-life affair. To that, let me remind you, it’s the beginning of a relationship at It’s just Lunch. Know your partners’ background by asking direct, frank questions about the number of partners he or she has been with, whether protection was always used, how well they knew the people (was it mostly serious relationships or just one night flings).
