When we were installing our kitchen back splash we found we had a lot to learn about back splash installation. It was obvious that we had to measure properly and to do as much as possible to run the cut tiles up against a wall or under the overhead cabinets to keep them from being as noticeable. We also learned that we needed to use small spacers to separate the tile because having wide grout lines made it look like the floor crawled up onto the wall. Eventually we got thru some trial and error and the tile looked really good.
