Why Are Headaches So Common During Pregnancy?

We do not fully understand headaches what causes headaches but one thing which we do know is tension and migraine headaches (two of the commonest types of headache) are much more often seen in women than in men. This suggests that hormones play key role in the onset of headaches and, as hormone levels are all over the place during pregnancy, it is not surprising that many women suffer from headaches when they are pregnant. We also know that headaches are especially common during the initial stages of pregnancy and that they tend to reduce in number during the second and third trimester, which is a time when hormone levels are beginning to settle. Fortunately, women do not simply have to suffer the problem of headaches while they are pregnant and there is much that can be done to prevent them and also to treat them.
