The oud is the first member of the lute family, a complex stringed-instruments group whose more important milestones are two: the oud and the more known European lute, a later modification of the first one. Today’s oud is totally different from the old proto-types and the Turkish oud is different from Arabic oud in playing style and shape. The oud is fretless and has a deep beautiful mellow sound like no other instrument. Like all the other Turk instruments, oud is hand-made, being difficult and requiring a long time to learn. The oud is said to have had celestial origins, and was bestowed on mortals, which is probably why it is one of the few musical instruments tolerated by the Islamic faith.

There aren’t many things in life that I enjoy more than jamming out with my buddies. We just grab an instrument that’s lying around in my house and start going to town. What’s great is that it doesn’t matter if you pick up an instrument that you aren’t any good at.
